How to Avoid the Negative Emotional Consequences of Dieting: Upgrade Your Attitude

The 131 Method isn’t just about macros, or the “best” foods. It’s about your thoughts and your attitude. Permanent change comes from committing to positive thoughts and shifting your mindset. The diet industry has brainwashed us. We were sold a bill of goods about slashing calories, eating low-fat, or every 3 hours, or (fill in the blank). Or maybe it’s about the “all or nothing mentality.” If a bite of an “off-limits food” sends you into a tailspin, you suffer from one of the many emotional consequences of dieting.
Your attitude has the potential to change your family, your relationships and your legacy. Too many people are held hostage by their bodies and beliefs. You have too many cool things going for you to let a pair of shorts, or a scale, dictate your self-worth. So let go of the dieter’s mentality. Let go of perfection. Understand that there are other ways to get healthy. Ways that don’t include being miserable, following other people’s rules, or hating yourself half the day. Women think about their bodies (and imperfections) a staggering amount. It’s really downright criminal! Tying self-worth, or happiness, to one’s body completely robs the soul of its essence.
