Amazing & Only Halfway Through
When we saw Kate B’s results after only 6 weeks, we picked our jaws off the floor, and asked her to tell us everything about her journey thus far. Her weight loss of about 10 pounds, while impressive, is only part of why we began freaking out. You see, the non-scale victories jazz us up just as much as the photos and weight on the scale. Society focuses a lot on the number between the toes going down. But that number only tells some of the story. And that scale feedback doesn’t always lead to more energy, less brain fog and behavior modification. So, we are getting the whole story, or rather, the story of the first six weeks, from Kate.
The Year of Kate
After moving from LA to Nashville, and suffering a string of setbacks, Kate found herself 30 pounds heavier, despite maintaining her exercise regimen of pole dancing four times per week. She declared the year she turned 41, “The Year of Kate,” and one month in decided to join the 131 Method. “I was sitting in a meeting at work and just felt bad, sluggish, with a brain fog that started after lunch. And my clothes didn’t really fit anymore. I was still dancing, but that wasn’t helping. I felt like I was at a tipping point where I had to change something. Chalene did a lot of research, so I said F*#$ it and signed up because I had NOTHING to lose.”
Quick Learner
The 131 Method is a 12-week program. It’s released in phases as audio and video lessons via your phone or desktop. So imagine Kate’s surprise when in just a few weeks, she noticed several life-changing things. First off, she’s no longer a sugar addict. Also, her head became clearer, clothes fit better, her dancing and sleep improved and she feels more herself than ever before.
“The first month was really hard due to my gall bladder issues, so I felt nauseous or would get sick during the first week. I stayed with it because I knew I could alter the proportions of fat, carbs and protein to not feel sick all the time. I really wanted to learn why the food I was eating wasn’t nourishing my body optimally.”
Top Victories so Far
Only half way through, her sugar cravings are gone! “I am a big sugar addict so this is HUGE! Also my allergies and asthma have gotten better. This program has been a game changer because it is about learning what does and doesn’t work for me. It isn’t about a number on a scale, but about how I feel in my clothes and in my own skin. I have spent too much of my life caring what a scale says. I can’t even own a full length mirror! This is the first program where I have taken before photos.” Since she doesn’t own a scale, she quickly steps on one if she visits a friend. So actually, her results may have even exceeded the 10-pounds she thinks she’s lost.
Recipes & Deep Dives
Two other helpful components to her success include the extensive database of recipes and the optional deep dive lessons. “I have only been making the recipes and I love about 80% of them. My favorite so far are the Ignite Freezer Bars, Vegan Vegetable Ragu, Spaghetti Squash Bowl and so many others.
While the 131 Method offers a variety of meal plans, the goal is to figure out which foods work the best for YOUR body. Relying on someone else’s weight loss meal plans doesn’t teach you about your own body, or provide you with any freedom of choice. You might lose weight, but also continue feeling tired or bloated. “The fact they they acknowledge each person is different (hence the customizable program) was a big plus. Most programs just say ‘this will work.’ But those aren’t made for everyone, and learning that each person has a different set of foods that cause them inflammation feels empowering, and different.”
Daily Differences
Kate says, “there is more flexibility to live your life. On the few occasions I have gone out with friends for dinner and eaten the choices that went with the phase, I felt better about portion control.” Her day to day changes now include: drinking more water, meal prepping and not being afraid to use unfamiliar foods and ingredients.

This resonates with me. My husband has been in and out of a mental health unit for the past two years. It has taken a huge toll on me as well. I’ve gained 30+lbs and working out is not a daily occurrence. I’m night time snacking and addicted to sugar. Hiding candy treats in my car, desk. I’m a subscriber to 131 just never got started. I’m 52, in peri-menopause, have rheumatoid arthritis. I need help getting started.
Oh Karen! My heart goes out to you! Yes- so often we find temporary comfort in the treat and late night snacking. Your physical side effects will improve once you start your journey! You CAN do this!
