We initially created this bright green Shamrock Shake for St. Patty’s Day. But we quickly realized that this darned shake requires Hall of Fame status. Don’t limit this rich, creamy and filling “milkshake” to green holidays like Christmas and St. Patrick’s Day. Break it out any time you need a balanced, HFLC meal that tastes sweet and really satisfies.
The Big Tip
Okay- are you ready? The super fun hack to milkshake making (when you omit real dairy) is to FREEZE your base (in this case, coconut milk). We love freezing our leftover canned coconut milk after making recipes that don’t utilize the entire can. How many times have you made a recipe that calls for a quarter cup of canned coconut milk, only to let the rest go to waste? That’s just plain crazy! Pour off the leftovers into ice cube trays and freeze for use in this Shamrock Shake (or any of our shake recipes in the 131 Method online program, or, the 131 Method Book).
Nutrient Rich Shamrock Shake
What else makes our 131 version of this popular minty shake so much better than all the rest? Well, instead of green food dye, we use spinach. We promise you can’t taste it! We also use nondairy milks, because milk is inflammatory for most people! Collagen peptides give you a protein boost and offer all the benefits of collagen (something we lose in spades as we age). And lastly, we opt for sugar-free Lily’s chocolate chips, which save you on sugar. Or- go with nature’s candy: cacao nibs. They’re not sweet, but they’re FULL of antioxidants and fiber.
