Springing into Action
Letisha S. is a perfect example of what happens when desire meets education and opportunity. Stuck at her current weight and suffering from rosacea, an email about the 131 Method came at just the right time. “I was working out and thought I was eating well but I was seeing no changes. I’d hit a plateau. I had no idea what it entailed, but knew I needed to take a different approach to my health. So, I signed up immediately.” What she quickly learned extended far beyond weight loss. Healing rosacea by eating better and ditching bad habits was a surprising (and happy) side effect.
Right from the very beginning, Letisha knew this program was different than anything else she’d ever seen. What surprised her most was the education on how the body works, and why some people experience side effects with food. She learned there’s usually a solution if a person is willing to put forth a little effort. “We just didn’t try a new, “diet,” we learned why we took each step and how each process and step worked. I think that is key to staying consistent. Eliminating certain foods was beneficial for me. Discovering what caused my inflammation and bloating was a huge achievement for me. I know now based off the lessons why certain foods affect me. I lost 15 pounds during this process, and began healing rosacea with diet the more I stayed on course.”
“We are being educated on the process and given research to help us change our mindset from what we are used to. I am moderately active and I enjoy health and fitness, but I was stuck in my old ways. I didn’t have much education on carb intake, ketones or gut health. It’s also a step by step process that allows those that need guidance and support to get to their goals.” Letisha says the library of recipes helped greatly, as did all the forum responses from the Registered Dietitians. To her, it felt extremely well rounded and thorough: “Not only did you have lessons, but you had visuals and examples to help the process be as smooth as possible.”
A Family Affair
Letisha felt like a great role model for her twins, and her husband, who decided to hop on board with her. He lost over 20 pounds and learned a lot about carbs and his food choices. The pair say they’ve adopted several new habits that have not only improved them physically, but emotionally. “I’m much more aware of my gut microbiome and spend more time outside. I am more aware of sugar and processed foods, I eat more vegetables than I used to, and we only eat grass-fed, grass-finished meat.” Perhaps the biggest lesson in all of this is her realization that cycling one’s diet is imperative to long-term success. “We have to constantly change things up and listen to our bodies.” Letisha feels much more connected to the environment after learning about how animals are raised and treated, and what effect commercially-raised livestock has on our bodies.
Staying the Course
When asked about any hard-times, Letisha credits four things to getting through: her high-fat coffee, positive thinking (which she learned in the lessons), accountability with the rest of the people going through the program, and her husband. She’s maintained her results and feels she and her family have a new way of life ahead of them. And once she began overcoming rosacea with simple food choices, it became easy to stick to. The proof is in the pudding!
