Pictures Speak a Thousand Words
In the case of Joni H., her smile tells the biggest story of all. Unable to lose the baby weight she gained after having two children in two years, she jumped at the chance to take part in the 131 Method. Almost immediately, she experienced several awakenings. Even though she exercised, had normal blood work, and ate a ‘healthy’ diet, she says she was unable to drop any weight at all.
Within days of beginning the program, she quickly learned that most of the foods on her daily list weren’t serving her well at all. “Now that I have learned so much information, I truly feel like I am working with my body instead of fighting it. I had NO idea how many carbs I was taking in, even though they were, so-called, ‘healthy carbs.’ They were clearly responsible for how sluggish I felt every day.” She says the first phase was eye-opening and life-changing. It’s rare to begin a program and have life-altering information released within minutes of starting. The immediate actionable steps kept Joni riveted to every lesson.
New Habits
Joni released her previous habits and beliefs because she came to understand she had no scientific basis for how she was eating and living. So many of us jump on the bandwagon of dogma that’s spread in the media, and even given to us by “experts.” The trouble is, there’s no one-size-fits-all approach for everyone, though the media and authors would have us believe otherwise. It’s confusing, and a big reason people don’t change what’s not working for them. She says, “I am now in control of what I put into my body. I’ve learned it’s good to try new things that are initially uncomfortable; so much of this was retraining my brain from things I had previously been told but had no real scientific backing.”
The 131 Method doesn’t give you one way to eat, train or think, and everything is backed up by science. Everyone is unique; your diet should be too. It’s the driving force on why this program grows with you, and really, has no ending. “Maintenance has been one of the easiest parts. I’m not yo-yoing on the scale anymore. I indulged on my birthday and got very uncomfortable and bloat-y, but because I am so aware of how I felt, it seemed easier to transition back into eating all the foods that help me feel better and fuel my body well. I didn’t feel guilty because I celebrated either! No guilt to me means that I am in control of my body and food, and food is not controlling me. Major win!”
Joni continues to test how certain foods affect her body. “I definitely view food differently. I have a level of confidence that says I can change me, and learn and grow as a person.”
Camera Happy
Once camera shy, Joni explains she didn’t have many pictured from which to choose to send in. This photo, however, is one of her favorites. “I hid a lot from the camera, but this is my favorite progress photo, as I feel it captures so much of what I have felt as I’ve seen progress! Happy, strong, confident! #wonderwoman!” Having conquered her emotional eating shows now in all she does. From her choices, to energy to her radiant smile, having control changed everything.
