Getting healthier has the ability to impact more than just what you see in the mirror. In reality, taking control of your health and making it a priority can influence just about every aspect of your life. From your mental outlook to your personal finances, your existence just gets better. Catch a glimpse at the different getting healthier affects who you are (and who you can become)!

Most of you are aware of the time and energy it takes to prioritize your body and get serious about fitness and nutrition goals. But don’t forget that by focusing on your health, you create new practices that inspire new interests and find hobbies. Whether it’s trying out an outdoor activity, a new healthy recipe or reading motivation stories, making weight loss intentional can cause genine purpose and enthusiasm.

Just as we all have uniquely different bodies, our fitness journey “like and dislikes” also varies depending on who you are. Staying positive about the factors that excite you and working through the more challenging aspects develops inner strength. While some days can be harder than others, seek advice from friends, gym instructors or registered dietitians. Even magazines and books can offer support and reassurance on your road to getting in shape.

Investing in your health is often misconstrued as overpriced and unaffordable for the average person. This causes people to take the backseat in their body’s well-being. But what many people neglect to consider is the long-term benefits taking care of your body and the money it saves in the future. In fact, studies have shown that adult weight loss can contribute to thousands of dollars in savings due to a reduced risk of certain diseases. Additionally, when at a healthier weight, you avoid several medical costs associated with excess weight. Obesity contributes to future complications and diseases, so the healthier you are, the less money you spend.

Similarly, for your longer-term financial consideration, your weight and overall health play a major part in determining your rates for life insurance policies. While recent weight loss does not automatically qualify you for lower rates immediately, being a healthy BMI qualifies you as a lower risk. So, although your rates may not reduce instantly, several companies offer a ‘reconsideration’ period around a year or two after stable weight loss. This enables a health reevaluation of your health classification for a chance to lower your rates. Talk about motivation!
