Complacent with Life
Marissa H. says she was perfectly happy being out of shape for many years. She was constantly tired and felt like that was, “just the way it goes,” in life. She’d toy with diets and join random weight loss groups, but never gave it her all. The 131 Method changed everything for her because as soon as she joined, she knew it was completely different than anything else out there. “There’s just something about the way the material is presented, something about all of the videos and recordings with Chalene, and the entire 131 team, that just makes you want more for yourself, and you really believe that you can do it.”
Partners in Crime
Marissa was lucky enough to go through the program with her sister, a decision that added to her success. “I can’t stress how helpful it is to do this with a partner. Not necessarily for accountability, because you need to want to do this for yourself, but for support. When one of us tries or creates a new recipe, we pass it along. We explain articles to each other. She’s the one who convinced me that I could get through my first fast! It’s just so great to have her there if things don’t go perfectly.” They both experienced major benefits and had fun while learning. Marissa (at 5’2) says that people definitely take notice with a dramatic 55-pound weight loss. She’s been able to tell people about the program and spread the #131movement.
Notable Non-Scale Victories
Aside from getting off cholesterol medication, round the clock nasal spray to allow her to breathe due to a chronic stuffy nose, and relief from frequent migraines, her entire work experience has improved. “I’m a music teacher, voice teacher, and a performer, and I used to always be concerned about getting sick, or straining my voice. Now, everything is easier.” She’s also begun to exercise after loathing it for far too many years. She says she still doesn’t love it, but she loves the way she feels after, so she does it! Other notable habits include hydration. She says she wouldn’t dream of leaving the house without several full bottles of lemon ginger water, and she feels her best downing 100 ounces per day. She also put more value on her sleep, which has really changed her life as well.
Getting Cozy in the Kitchen
Part of her success is also due to spending time in the kitchen. She admits it’s not always easy to carve out the time, but it’s crucial to the process to know exactly what’s going into your body in order to discover sensitives that cause inflammation. “I’ve enjoyed all of the recipes I’ve tried. My favorites are Vegan Mushroom Ragu, Crock Pot Meatballs, and the Cream of Broccoli Soup. Those three are always in my freezer just in case I need a quick meal!”
Final Words
I’m really happy not only with my weight loss and the sizes I’ve dropped, but also with my ability to enjoy things now that just seemed so much harder before. I have a ridiculous amount of energy now, and of course shopping for clothes is a lot more fun. Her favorite lesson is the mindset topic of sanity. “You can’t be a machine, sometimes you have to weigh the pros and cons. Sometimes I just need to sleep a little more instead of getting up to exercise, or I really want a glass of wine.” For her, it all fits in: life, sleep, favorite foods. “If you are driving yourself crazy with a program, it just isn’t worth it!” It’s safe to say Marissa no longer feels crazy, or restricted, or hopeless. “As cheesy as it sounds, “The 131 Method changed my life!”
