58 Pounds in 16-Weeks!
Sarah J. had an astounding 45-pound weight loss in just one round of the 131 Method. For those of you who don’t know, that’s only 12-weeks! What’s even cooler about Sarah is that she didn’t stop there. The end of the first round simply meant she was ready to start again from the beginning. What the 131 Method teaches is that diets (or simply, the way in which you eat) should be phased. The body gets used to one way of eating because it craves homeostasis. That’s why so many people get “stuck” at one weight and cannot seem to break it, no matter how hard they try. So instead of gunning for the finish line, Sarah knew to start over right away, and as a result, lost another 13 pounds in four-weeks! She still has eight weeks to go in her second round of the 131, which is an absolute testament to how this is a lifestyle, not a diet. And, she did it all through the Thanksgiving and Christmas holidays!
A self-proclaimed, “big girl,” Sarah had all but resigned herself to carrying that label throughout her lifetime. She’s never been able to lose more than 30-pounds without gaining it all back, and then some. “Watching the scale go down, down, and down some more was just unbelievable to me! I had always believed that food’s control of me, especially sweets, was greater than any self-control I could ever muster, but the 131 proved me wrong. I haven’t had any sugar since day one and I’m still going strong.”
Education is the Key
Aside from learning the science behind weight loss resistance and the connection between the gut and the brain that keeps us hungry all the time, Sarah says she loved the lesson on the difference between true hunger and appetite and determining the source of our desire to eat. “I used to think that appetite and hunger were the same thing, but I have really learned the difference. Starting the program during the Christmas season was hard because there are so many emotional reasons to eat and use food as tradition and celebration. I learned that I didn’t actually want to eat at most of the family functions and parties because I wasn’t physically hungry. My appetite was triggered, but I wasn’t hungry. Separating emotions from food has been such a meaningful lesson.”
Find a Strong “Why”
Sarah also has a toddler, who is a huge catalyst for her healthier habits. “I have more energy to play with my 11-month-old. Before I started, I couldn’t comfortably sit on the ground with her to play, and now it’s no big deal. I understand the purpose of food is to fuel me, and I have started craving healthy foods. I’m not always thinking about when and what my next treat will be. Plus, I got to get out my bin of smaller clothes and have a whole wardrobe right off the bat!”
We love good non-scale victories at 131 HQ, and Sarah’s make us jump for joy! She used to have bad heartburn every day, taking one to two Zantac, but she’s completely off all heartburn medication. Her nearly daily headaches are gone, and her hair isn’t falling out the way it once was. Imagine the sorrow of washing your hair and ending up with clumps in your hands!! Today, Sarah’s hair looks beautiful, and she can see and feel the difference. That’s almost as good as the dramatic weight loss in 12-weeks!

Sarah makes many of the 131 recipes and noted many of her favorites, including: mint truffles, fat bombs, spaghetti squash, butternut curry, lemon pesto, oat balls and more. Having easy to follow recipes helped her stay on track and inspire her husband to make some changes as well.
