Fasting Debate
There is much hoopla about whether or not fat coffee breaks a fast. Rather than freak out about it, listen to your body. If not eating until noon makes you cringe, but you can do it with the 131 Method Fat Coffee, then go right ahead. Technically, anything with calories “breaks a fast.” However, the real key is to not be miserable while giving your digestion a rest. Fat coffee doesn’t spike insulin, and therefore, is allowed in many fasting circles as a way to much longer between meals. Give it a try and see!

What is the difference between canned coconut cream vs canned coconut milk? Also, coconut milk in refrigerator section?
Coconut milk has water added, so it isn’t as thick (or as fatty). You can scoop the cream part off the top of the can and use as coconut cream. The bottom 1/2-2/3 of the can will be a thin coconut milk/water.
Coconut milk from a carton is found in the fridge section of the market- but also in the boxed, shelf-stable area too. Canned is obviously on shelves:)
Coconut cream is the rich fatty part of coconut milk..without the water. Not coconut milk from the refrigerated section, in a carton. In the context of this kind of coffee, they usually mean the kind in the can that has all the coconut fat in it.
I can’t believe how long I am satisfied after drinking 131 coffee! I have started looking forward to it each morning! It keeps me full until at least 11 am every day! And stop eating at 7pm. So my 16:8 window w IF is a breeze!
That’s awesome!
I really hate coffee and I don’t really do tea either, is this something that is super important to drink for the caffeine and fat combo or is it not necessary? Is it going to impact my results? Is there something else you would recommend? I have just started reading the book and it seems like it is an important feature.
Hi!
Nope! Not at alllll! Don’t ever eat (or drink) anything you don’t like because someone else recommends it. Many people rely on the coffee because it helps them “fast.” And, well, they simply LOVE coffee and are super happy that coffee works into a program. But many others sail through until noon with just water. You can get your fats in elsewhere. A drizzle of MCT is all ya need:)
I’ve heard that you should go easy on the MCT oil until you’re accustomed to it, or it could cause “intestinal distress,” lol. Is that so?
Yes! It can cause you to run to the bathroom until you become accustomed. Start slow with 1 teaspoon per day for a week. Graduate to 2 the next, ending up eventually at 1 TBS a day.
There are so many organic coffees out there, is there one you have tried, loved, and recommend?
Yes- we drink Bulletproof coffee at the office. When I want a little bit of flavored coffee (which is hard to find organic)- I buy from Amazon: The Bean Coffee Company- Vanilla
San Francisco Coffee Co. off Amazon makes great organic pods too:)
Love this as my morning breakfast on Ignite…It totally doesn’t need the stevia unless you’re a real sweet tooth and it keeps me going right up till lunch. This is my go to breakfast for that early morning work shift in the hospital.
Love hearing this! Thanks for the comment!
I get so confused by all the conflicting information out there. I’ve read so many things on the keto pages that say you shouldn’t add fat to your diet if you need to burn fat from your body. What is true?
But in order to consume enough calories and NOT overdo carbs or protein (which throws you out of ketosis)- the only macronutrient left is fat. Obviously don’t go crazy ADDING fat, however, percentage-wise, fat will dominate your intake.
Tried it unfortunately hated it
Oh no!
Did you use a high-powered blender? I have heard some people say they just tried to stir it and that the oils separated and that’s why they didn’t care for it. But once processed in a blender- it is creamy, frothy and delicious.
